Description
India's Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth ₹538.7 billion (about $5.7 billion) in New Delhi on 2 November 2026 for eight Next Generation Corvettes for the Indian Navy, according to the ministry. Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) will build five and Goa Shipyard three; the ministry said it is the first project in which navy-designed warships are built by state-owned yards selected through competition. GRSE valued its five-ship share at ₹320 billion, to be completed within nine years and four months of the first payment, Baird Maritime reported. The 127-metre, 26-knot ships are to carry medium-range anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles, 324 mm torpedo tubes, a 76 mm gun and an AK-630 close-in weapon system.
