Moroccan Military Ranks
🇲🇦
- Royal Moroccan Army (l'Armée Royale / الجيش الملكي): Conducts land-based combat, territorial defense, and border security operations. Responsibilities include manning defensive fortifications along the Western Sahara sand wall and patrolling the eastern border. Forces are organized into infantry, armored, mechanized, artillery, and air defense units directed by commands in Rabat.
- Royal Moroccan Navy (Marine Royale / البحرية الملكية): Executes maritime defense, secures the exclusive economic zone, and patrols maritime passages such as the Strait of Gibraltar. It operates frigates, corvettes, patrol vessels, and maritime surveillance aircraft. The branch includes organic marine infantry units that handle amphibious operations and coastal defense.
- Royal Moroccan Air Force (Forces Royales Air / القوات الجوية الملكية): Handles aerial combat, logistics transport, and tactical reconnaissance. It operates fighter squadrons, transport fleets, and utility helicopters across multiple domestic airbases. Responsibilities include airspace monitoring and air-to-ground tactical support for land forces.
- Royal Moroccan Gendarmerie (Gendarmerie Royale / الدرك الملكي): Functions as a military constabulary under the Administration of National Defense, carrying out military police duties and policing rural and border regions. It maintains public order, assists civil authorities during emergencies, and supports the ground forces during mobilization. Specialized divisions include air, maritime, and counter-terrorism intervention groups.
- Moroccan Royal Guard (Garde Royale / الحرس الملكي): Provides physical protection and security for the King, members of the royal family, and designated royal palaces. Officially integrated within the army structure, this unit maintains active-duty infantry, cavalry, and support squadrons. It conducts both tactical defense missions and state ceremonial protocols.
- Auxiliary Forces (Forces Auxiliaires / القوات المساعدة): Serves as a paramilitary force under the Ministry of the Interior but legally integrated into the armed forces' defense framework. It provides border surveillance, public safety reinforcement, and logistical assistance during natural disasters. The force is divided into the Mobile Intervention Support Units and the administrative Provincial Guard.
