Description
A Japan Air Self-Defense Force F-15DJ crashed into the Sea of Japan about 5 km from Komatsu Air Base on 31 January 2022. The two-seat aggressor-unit jet was on a night training flight and lost radar contact within a minute of takeoff. A government spokesman told reporters that part of the fuselage was found and that the two crew were being searched for. Aviation Safety Network records both crew as killed. No cause was announced, and the defence ministry did not ground the F-15 fleet. Debris from the tail fin and survival gear was recovered near the site.
