Description
A Hellenic Air Force F-4E Phantom II crashed into the sea off the western Peloponnese during a training flight from Andravida Air Base, and both crew members were killed. One body was recovered shortly after the accident and the second two days later, following a search involving aircraft and naval vessels. Andravida is the home of the Greek Phantom force, the last operator of the type in Western Europe, whose aircraft were modernised in the 1990s and remained in front-line strike and air defence duty three decades later. An investigation into the cause of the accident was opened.
