Description
The Royal New Zealand Air Force's fourth and final P-8A Poseidon arrived at RNZAF Base Ohakea after its delivery flight from the United States, completing a four-aircraft acquisition worth NZ$2.34 billion. The Poseidon replaces the P-3K2 Orion, which had flown New Zealand's maritime patrol task since the 1960s, and the type joined No. 5 Squadron for maritime surveillance, search-and-rescue support, fisheries and resource protection and long-range patrol across the South Pacific and Southern Ocean. The aircraft brings a modern sensor suite and an anti-submarine capability to one of the world's largest search-and-rescue regions.
