Chilean Air Force Bell 412 Crash

A Chilean Air Force Bell 412 crashed in the La Cumbre sector of San Juan de la Costa, in the Los Lagos Region, during a night flight. The service said all five people aboard were killed. Emergency teams reached the wreckage in difficult forested terrain, and the Chilean Air Force opened an investigation without announcing an initial cause. The Bell 412 is used by the service for transport, liaison and search-and-rescue work in the country's south, where long distances, mountainous ground and rapidly changing weather make helicopter operations unusually demanding.
