United States Air Force CV-22 Damaged

A United States Air Force CV-22 made an uncontrolled hard landing at Melrose Air Force Range in New Mexico during nighttime training. The investigation found that a night-vision-goggle battery cable inadvertently moved an engine control lever to the off position while the aircraft was in a hover, causing a rapid descent. One crew member sustained minor injuries and the Osprey incurred about $2 million in repairable damage. It was the second CV-22 mishap in a week for Air Force Special Operations Command, which had suffered a rotor strike at Inyokern five days earlier.
