Russian Air Force Su-24 Crash

A Russian Air Force Su-24 crashed in an unpopulated part of Volgograd region during a training flight. Russia's Defence Ministry said the bomber carried no weapons and that the crash caused no casualties or damage on the ground, but it did not disclose the crew's fate or the cause of the accident. The Su-24 is a variable-geometry tactical bomber introduced in the 1970s and still flown in large numbers by Russian frontal aviation, where it has suffered a steady stream of accidents alongside its combat attrition. Volgograd region lies well behind the front line and hosts several training and transit airfields.
