Description
Airbus handed over the first of 56 C295 transport aircraft to the Indian Air Force in fly-away condition at its Seville final assembly line, with the aircraft due to depart for India within days. The programme covers sixteen aircraft built in Spain and forty to be assembled at Vadodara by Tata Advanced Systems, the first private-sector military aircraft production line in India. The type replaces the service's Avro 748 tactical transports, in use since the 1960s, and gives it a modern short-field airlifter for supply flights to airstrips along the northern and eastern frontiers.
