Description
An Italian Air Force MB-339 of the Frecce Tricolori display team crashed shortly after taking off from Turin-Caselle Airport during practice for a display. The pilot ejected and survived, but the aircraft came down near the airport perimeter and struck a car, killing a child on the ground and injuring three of their relatives. The air force examined a possible bird strike but had not established the cause. The MB-339 is a two-seat jet trainer that has equipped the Frecce Tricolori since 1982, and the crash renewed questions about the age of the aerobatic team's aircraft and the timetable for replacing them.
