Islamic Revolutionary Guard Su-22 Crash

An Islamic Revolutionary Guard Su-22 crashed near Lake Parishan, in the Kazerun area of Fars province, during a training flight. Iranian officials said the pilot ejected and survived, and reported no casualties on the ground; the accident was attributed to a technical failure that was not detailed. Iran's Su-22 fleet consists largely of Iraqi aircraft flown to Iran during the 1991 Gulf War and later pressed into service, and is operated by the Revolutionary Guard's aerospace arm rather than the regular air force. Sanctions and spare parts shortages have kept only a handful of the type airworthy.
