Description
A Hellenic Air Force T-2E Buckeye crashed in countryside outside Kalamata Air Base while returning from a training flight, killing the sole pilot aboard. The two-seat aircraft was carrying only one crew member and came down as it was coming in to land; authorities did not disclose a cause. Kalamata hosts the Hellenic Air Force's flying training school, where the T-2E has been used for advanced pilot training since the 1970s. The type was by then among the oldest jet trainers in NATO service, and Greece had begun planning its replacement under a wider training modernisation programme.
