Japan Ground Self-Defence Force MV-22 Damaged

A Japan Ground Self-Defense Force V-22 Osprey was damaged at Camp Yonaguni, on Japan's westernmost island, at about 11:40 on 27 October 2024 during a casualty-evacuation scenario of the Keen Sword exercise. The Ministry of Defense said the aircraft lost balance and swung from side to side as it attempted to take off, and the air outlet of its left engine struck the ground. None of the 16 Japanese and US Marine Corps personnel aboard was injured. Japan suspended all its Osprey flights pending investigation, except for disaster response, while US Forces Japan said its own Ospreys remained mission capable.
