Description
A McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet of the Finnish Air Force crashed near Rovaniemi Airport in Lapland. The pilot ejected and was taken to hospital. Rovaniemi is home to the Lapland Air Command, which guards Finnish airspace along the Russian border and has flown a markedly higher tempo since Finland joined NATO. The Hornet fleet is being progressively replaced by 64 F-35As under the HX programme, with the Finnish Hornets due to leave service by 2030.
