Description
A Bell 212 helicopter of the Sri Lanka Air Force crashed into the Maduru Oya Reservoir during a training mission. Twelve personnel were rescued, but six others, four from the army and two from the air force, later died of their injuries. The flight was conducting special forces water training over the reservoir. The Bell 212 is the commercial designation of the twin-engine UH-1N and forms the backbone of Sri Lankan utility rotary-wing capability.
