Description
Italy signed a contract worth around 300 million US dollars with L3Harris Technologies for two EA-37B Compass Call standoff jamming aircraft, the first export sale of the type. The EA-37B is built on the Gulfstream G550 airframe and carries the electronic attack suite that replaced the American EC-130H Compass Call, offering far greater speed, altitude and range than the turboprop it supersedes. Italy already operates the G550 in transport and airborne early warning configurations, giving a measure of fleet commonality, and the aircraft will provide NATO with a second standoff jamming capability alongside the US Air Force fleet.
