Description
Hungary withdrew its last Mi-24P and Mi-24V Hind attack helicopters from service in early February 2026. According to Aviation News, the final flight took place at Szolnok Air Base on 4 February, in a farewell closed to the media, and the airworthiness certificate of the last operational airframe expired the following day. The helicopters were flown by the Phoenix attack helicopter battalion; eight of them had been returned to flying status by a life-extension overhaul in Russia in 2017. The type entered Hungarian service in 1978, and its last live-fire exercise was flown in October 2025. A ceremonial farewell for the Mi-24 and Mi-17 fleets followed on 17 June 2026.
