Description

On February 27, 2026, a Bolivian Air Force C-130H Hercules transport crashed near El Alto International Airport while landing in severe weather conditions on a flight from Santa Cruz. The four-engine turboprop overran runway 28, breached the airfield perimeter, and struck vehicles on the adjacent Costanera Avenue, a high-traffic road at 4,061 meters elevation. The aircraft was carrying newly printed banknotes for the central bank. At least 22 people were killed, including one of the six crew members, and over 37 were injured. Two crew remained unaccounted for. A formal investigation into the cause is underway.
