Description

A Mexican Navy Mil Mi-17 helicopter suffered a sudden main engine power failure seconds after lifting off from the Fourth Naval Region base in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on 4 May 2026, forcing the crew to perform a forced landing near the base. The Secretariat of the Navy said the aircraft sustained substantial damage to its nose landing gear during the hard touchdown but reported no casualties among the crew. Investigators were expected to examine engine components, maintenance records and available flight data as part of a broader safety review. Video of the incident, recorded by witnesses near the naval base, circulated widely on social media.
