Description
The Fuerza Aérea Argentina (FAA) officially decommissioned its A-4AR Fightinghawk fleet on May 14, 2026, at a ceremony held at Villa Reynolds Air Base (5th Air Brigade, San Luis Province). The decision cited operational efficiency and economic sustainability, with sustainment costs for the aging airframes increasingly difficult to justify. The Fightinghawk was a unique Argentine variant: a Lockheed Martin upgrade of former U.S. Marine Corps A-4Ms, equipped with the AN/APG-66 radar and AIM-9M capability. Following a decade without a true supersonic fighter after the Mirage retirement in 2015, the type's stand-down was enabled by the ongoing introduction of 24 ex-Danish F-16s.
