Description

The first Royal Air Force E-7 Wedgetail, registered WT001, landed at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, flown by a mixed crew from Boeing Defence UK and the RAF. The arrival brought the airborne early warning and control aircraft to its future main operating base, where it continues a test and evaluation phase split between Lossiemouth and MOD Boscombe Down. Britain had been without a credible airborne early warning capability since the E-3D Sentry was withdrawn in 2021. The RAF has three Wedgetails on contract, converted from Boeing 737 Next Generation airframes and fitted with the Northrop Grumman MESA radar.
