Mali Air Force Mi-24/35 Shot down

Shot down on 19 July 2026 near Kouakourou, in Mali's Mopti Region. After JNIM fighters overran the Malian Army camp in the village on 18 July, a formation of three helicopters deployed to the area the following day as militants were forcibly displacing residents. The fighters shot down and destroyed one of the Mi-24 attack helicopters, killing its two crew members, and later released drone reconnaissance footage of the wreckage. The loss is the second helicopter downed in Mali in two weeks, after an Africa Corps Mi-24P on 5 July, and underscores the growing use of drones for reconnaissance and targeting by insurgent groups.
