Description
An MV-22B Osprey of Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron VMM-266 suffered a fire in its right engine nacelle during startup procedures at Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport, Arizona, on 19 July 2026. The pilots and aircrew carried out an emergency shutdown in accordance with established procedure and all personnel evacuated the aircraft without injury. Crews from the Mesa Fire and Medical Department brought the engine fire under control with foam agents at around 6 p.m. local time. The aircraft was in Arizona supporting Exercise Savage Jackal, an Air Force-led training exercise. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
