Description

The US Navy retired the C-2A Greyhound on 23 July 2026, when Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 40, the "Rawhides", was disestablished in a sundown ceremony at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia. Commissioned in 1960, VRC-40 was the Navy's last carrier onboard delivery squadron following the decommissioning of VRC-30 in 2023. The type's final arrested landing and catapult launch took place aboard USS Nimitz on 25 June 2026 during FLEETEX 250, closing six decades of fixed-wing COD operations. The last airframe was to be flown to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida. The CMV-22B Osprey now carries the COD mission.
