Description

An F-15DJ of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force experienced a hydraulic system malfunction during a training sortie over the Sea of Japan on 4 August 2026. The two-seat Eagle returned to Komatsu Air Base and made a precautionary emergency landing shortly after 17:25 local time, deploying its arresting hook to compensate for a possible brake fault; both crew members were uninjured and the aircraft sustained only minor damage. The runway, shared with the civilian Komatsu Airport, was closed for about 35 minutes, delaying an All Nippon Airways flight from Fukuoka. It was the base's second hydraulic-related emergency landing in three weeks, and the ninth in a decade.
