Description

An F-4E Phantom II of 338 Squadron, 117th Combat Wing at Andravida Air Base crashed at 14:55 local time on 5 September 2026, roughly two minutes into its solo display at the Athens Flying Week show hosted at Tanagra Air Base. Video shows the two-seater losing height in a fast, low turn before striking trees beside the runway and exploding in a closed industrial area; no parachutes were seen and both crew members were killed. No spectators were hurt and the remainder of the weekend programme was cancelled. The Hellenic Air Force has convened an investigation board. The loss leaves 16 F-4E in Greek service, a fleet already halved in 2025 ahead of retirement.
