Description
Kamensk-Uralsky, also known as Travyany, is a military air base located near the village of Travyanskoye, in the vicinity of the city of Kamensk-Uralsky, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia. The base is owned by the Ministry of Defence and operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces, under the control of the 14th Air and Air Defence Forces Army. From 1948 to 1998, it served as the home for the 605th Training Aviation Regiment, which operated aircraft such as UchSH Li-2, Il-28, Tu-124Sh, Tu-134Sh, and Tu-16, as part of the Chelyabinsk Higher Military Aviation School of Navigators. Currently, the base hosts the 17th Guards Army Aviation Brigade. In December 2018, the aviation brigade at the base was reorganized, with a new squadron formed and equipped with Mil Mi-24 attack helicopters. Previously, the base operated Mi-8 MTV-5 and Mi-8 MTV-5-1 helicopters. The airfield's call sign is 'Welcome' (Радушный). It is one of two units in Russia involved in the provision of space flights.
