Luqiao Air Base (路桥 Taizhou Luqiao Airport)

Luqiao Air Base is located in Luqiao District, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, China, approximately 20 kilometres from the city centre. Construction began in January 1954 under the People's Liberation Army Naval Aviation, and the airfield was completed in March 1955 and opened in July of that year. At the time, Luqiao was an administrative town within Huangyan County, Wenzhou Prefecture; the site was selected because sea and land communications in the Wenzhou region were poor, and an airfield there addressed war-preparedness requirements. The original facility comprised a single main runway with taxiway end and side safety areas.

Huangyan County passed to Taizhou Prefecture in 1962. Following applications from the Taizhou Prefectural Committee, the Taizhou Prefectural Administrative Office and the Huangyan County authorities, the airfield was converted to joint military-civil use in 1987 under State Council and Central Military Commission Document No. 157, becoming the first county-level joint military-civil airfield in mainland China and taking the name Huangyan Luqiao Airport. Civil facilities, including a waiting room, were built at a separate site outside the airfield perimeter, and the civil aviation station was established on 24 October 1987. A trial flight was flown on 18 November and civil operations began on 2 December. On 20 October the following year, the Nanjing Military Region Air Force Command approved the airfield's civil route structure under Document No. 399, authorising services to Shanghai Hongqiao and Hangzhou Jianqiao on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Huangyan was reorganised in 1994, with Luqiao becoming a district of Taizhou City, though the airport retained its former name until 23 December 2008, when it was redesignated Taizhou Luqiao Airport in accordance with the Civil Aviation Administration of China's Regulations on the Use of Civil Airports. In 2012 the airport closed for approximately four months for reconstruction of the runway, instrument landing system, weather station and terminal, reopening on 28 October. Civil management passed to the Zhejiang Provincial Airport Group in 2017, with Zhejiang Taizhou Airport Management Co., Ltd. registered on 24 November 2017.

A reconstruction and expansion programme begun on 16 December 2019 covered a new terminal, a parallel taxiway with connecting taxiways at both ends, additional parking stands and air traffic control facilities, and separated military and civil operations onto opposite sides of the runway. It was the first military-civil airfield project approved by the Central Military Commission following the post-2015 military reforms. The first batch of works passed Civil Aviation Administration of East China acceptance on 20–21 August 2024 and was transferred to operation on 26 December 2024.
