Description

PAF Base Mushaf is a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) installation located in the Sargodha District of Punjab, Pakistan. Originally established as a Royal Air Force airstrip during the 1930s, the site functioned as a satellite field after World War II and was commissioned as PAF Base Sargodha in 1959. The facility was renamed in 2003 after Air Chief Marshal Mushaf Ali Mir. Historically, the base supported air operations during the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pakistani wars, Operation Sentinel, Operation Swift Retort, and the 2025 conflict. During the 1965 war, the complex was a target of Indian air strikes while hosting squadrons of F-86 Sabres and F-104 Starfighters. Infrastructure developments between 1965 and 1971 included the construction of blast pens and dispersal sites.

The base is operated by the Pakistan Air Force and functions as a Major Operational Base under the control of Central Air Command. It hosts the headquarters of Central Air Command, the Combat Commanders' School (CCS), and the PAF Airpower Centre of Excellence (PAF ACE). Operational units stationed at the facility include 38 MR Wing and several flying units, such as 9 Squadron, 7 Squadron, 24 Squadron, and 29 Squadron. The base also houses CCS components for F-16, JF-17, and Mirage aircraft, along with 82 CS Squadron.

Infrastructure at the installation supports multiple aircraft types, including the F-16, JF-17, and Mirage III and 5. In addition to flight lines and maintenance facilities, the base is situated near the Kirana Ammunition Depot. The presence of the CCS and PAF ACE enables the facility to conduct pilot training and airpower development.
