Description
Pruzhany is a former airbase of the Belarusian Air Force located near Pruzhany in the Brest Region of Belarus. Military operations at the installation date to the immediate post-World War II period, beginning with the 953rd Assault Aviation Regiment, which operated Ilyushin Il-2 aircraft between 1945 and 1946. From 1952 to 1961, the base hosted the 163rd Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, which utilized Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 and MiG-17 fighter aircraft.
The facility supported various rotary-wing and fixed-wing assault units through the latter half of the 20th century. Helicopter operations included the 225th Independent Helicopter Regiment from 1972 to 1977, equipped with Mil Mi-4 and Mi-8 platforms. The 330th Independent Helicopter Regiment operated Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters between 1976 and 1987, followed by the 181st Independent Helicopter Regiment, which operated the same aircraft types from 1988 to 1992.
During the 1980s, the base served as a station for assault aviation regiments. The 357th Independent Assault Aviation Regiment operated Sukhoi Su-25 and Aero L-39 Albatros aircraft between 1984 and 1985. The 206th Independent Assault Aviation Regiment was also based at the installation from 1984 until 1993, operating Su-25 and L-39 aircraft.
