RNZAF Base Woodbourne (Woodbourne Airport)

RNZAF Base Woodbourne is a Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) installation located 8 kilometers west of Blenheim, New Zealand. Established in 1939, the base originally hosted the No. 2 Service Flying Training School (No. 2 SFTS). During World War II, No. 16 and No. 18 Squadrons RNZAF operated Curtiss P-40 Warhawks from the nearby Fairhall satellite field, while the Delta ground training camps were situated nearby.

Following the closure of No. 2 SFTS in 1945, the RNZAF Central Flying School and multiple ground training units, including the Officers' School of Instruction, relocated to Woodbourne. The Aircraft Repair Depot transferred to the base from Ohakea in 1949, and the Boy Entrant School was established in 1951. In 1995, the Ground Training Wing was formed to consolidate units from Woodbourne, Wigram, and Hobsonville to conduct recruit, initial officer, trade, and command training. The base's Airframe Reconditioning Squadron was commercialized in 1998 under SAFE Air Ltd, which Airbus acquired in 2015. Airbus Asia Pacific continues to provide military aircraft maintenance at the facility.

Woodbourne operates as the RNZAF's only support base and maintains a personnel strength of approximately 800. It does not host operational flying squadrons. Resident military units include the Command Training School, Command and Recruit Training Squadron, Technical Training Squadron, Mission Support Training Squadron, and Base Operations Squadron Woodbourne. Additional entities stationed at the facility are Defence Logistics (Air), RNZAF Police, the Base Medical flight, the Directorate of Defence Security, and the NZDF Physical Instructors Training School. The Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology conducts an Aeronautical Engineering programme on-site.

The installation is a dual-use facility, sharing its runways with the civil Woodbourne Airport. Infrastructure at the base includes the Airbus Aircraft Facility, which functions as a heavy maintenance center for the repair of military airframes, engines, and avionics systems.
