São Pedro da Aldeia Naval Air Base (BAeNSPA)

São Pedro da Aldeia Naval Air Base (BAeNSPA) is located in São Pedro da Aldeia, near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Activated in 1966, it operates as the sole air base of the Brazilian Navy. Prior to its establishment, Navy helicopters operated from a helipad on Avenida Brasil, which conflicted with air traffic from Galeão Airport. In 1962, the Centro de Instrução e Adestramento Aeronaval (CIAAN) transferred to the São Pedro da Aldeia site before construction finished to secure the Navy's position during a dispute with the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) over embarked aviation. In 1971, the Naval Air Force Command (ComForAerNav) relocated its headquarters to the base from the aircraft carrier Minas Gerais. The facility also hosted a FAB unit, the 2.ª Esquadrilha de Ligação e Observação, until 1995.

Operated by Brazilian Naval Aviation, BAeNSPA is the headquarters for ComForAerNav and its subordinate squadrons, although several naval aviation units are stationed elsewhere in the country under Naval Districts. The base hosts helicopter squadrons dedicated to instruction (HI-1), anti-submarine warfare (HS-1), reconnaissance and attack (HA-1), and general employment (HU-1 and HU-2). It also houses a fixed-wing interception and attack squadron (VF-1). Resident units include CIAAN and various Naval Aviation support organizations. The base supports personnel from other military organizations, supervises military service in the region, conducts 2nd and 3rd echelon aircraft maintenance, and operates an Industrial Division.

The base complex covers 1,241 hectares. The aerodrome serves as an alternative for air traffic in the Rio de Janeiro region and provides non-radar approach control for aircraft operating in the Lakes region, authorized by the Aeronautics Command. The facility also contains the Naval Aviation Museum.
