Description
Savasleyka air base is a military air base located in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia, near the village of Savasleyka. It is owned by the Ministry of Defence and operated by the Russian Aerospace Forces. The base was constructed in 1953. Its history dates back to 1953–54 when the Training Center of the Aviation of the Air Defence Forces was relocated there. The Tupolev Tu-128 was fielded at Savasleyka in 1964. In 1994, the 54th Guards Fighter Aviation Regiment, equipped with Sukhoi Su-27 aircraft, was based at Savasleyka as part of the 4th Aircrew Combat Training Centre. As of 2022, the base is home to the 3958th Aviation Base, operating Mikoyan MiG-31 aircraft, as part of the 4th Centre for Combat Application and Crew Training. The air base has been targeted by Ukrainian drones during the Russo-Ukrainian War, with incidents reported on August 13 and 16, 2024, and June 9, 2025, resulting in damage to aircraft and infrastructure. A small aircraft museum was previously operated at the base.
