B&T APC9K

B&T, formerly known as Brügger & Thomet, developed the Advanced Police Carbine (APC) series in Switzerland. The manufacturer designed the platform in 2010 and initiated production in 2011. The series was designed to provide a submachine gun that was more cost-effective to manufacture than the intermediate-caliber assault carbines utilized during that period. B&T incorporated its prior manufacturing experience with the MP9 platform alongside customer feedback to produce the new weapon.

The firearm operates via a closed-bolt, straight blowback system. Recoil management is aided by a proprietary hydraulic buffer system integrated into the receiver backplate. The upper receiver is manufactured from aerospace-grade alloy, while the lower receiver, pistol grip, magazine, and buttstock consist of polymer. The platform utilizes a side-folding polymer stock shared with the GL-06 grenade launcher. Its trigger assembly shares design commonality with the AR-15 platform, allowing the use of aftermarket components. All controls, including the charging handle, are ambidextrous. The PRO series variant introduces a non-reciprocating charging handle and a replaceable pistol grip compatible with AR-15 designs, alongside modular lower receivers configured to accept different manufacturer magazines. Over half of the parts are interchangeable across the product family. Sights consist of folding, adjustable iron sights, and the muzzle is equipped with a quick-release suppressor interface.

In 2019, the United States Army adopted the shortened APC9K variant for its Personal Security Detachments under the Sub Compact Weapon contract, with the United States Air Force procuring the same model the following year. Additional state and military organizations utilizing the platform include the Argentine Army Special Operations Forces, the Slovak Police Force, Belgian Customs, the Brazilian Civil and Military Police, and Ukrainian state agencies including the State Bureau of Investigation and the Kraken Regiment. Local law enforcement agencies in the United United States, including the Westchester County Police and Miami Beach Police Department, have also deployed various models. The weapon family is produced in multiple configurations, including standard, shortened, and integrally suppressed variants, as well as the modular PRO series and intermediate-caliber rifle models.
