Atlit Naval Base

Atlit Naval Base is a classified Israeli Navy installation on Israel's northern Mediterranean coast. It is the home of Shayetet 13, the Israeli Navy's naval commando unit.

Atlit Shipyard, part of the Israeli Naval Shipyards organisation, lies within the base perimeter. The yard has carried out covert repairs and operations.

The yard began as the Shayetet 13 shipyard. After the unit was formed, the research and planning division of the Weapons Development Authority started a sabotage-boat project based on Italian-built explosive boats. A new model completed yard trials in March 1954, passed navy testing in April of that year and entered production, and the boats became operational in 1956. When Shayetet 13 was integrated into the navy, its shipyard was subordinated to the Naval Shipyards.
