Haifa Naval Base

Haifa Naval Base is the principal base of the Israeli Navy and the hub of its naval force. It stands in the port of Haifa, on Israel's northern Mediterranean coast. The base secures Israel's shipping lanes, maintains and improves the operational capacity of the navy, and carries out routine security tasks. Its commander, an officer of brigadier general rank, is also the navy's commander of the northern arena.

The base hosts the 3rd Flotilla, the navy's main surface force of corvettes and missile boats, and the 7th Flotilla, its submarine force. As the navy's submarine base, Haifa homeports the Dolphin-class submarines, which are widely believed to carry Popeye Turbo cruise missiles armed with nuclear warheads. Squadron 914, part of the 15th Flotilla, operates patrol boats from the base. Also resident are YALTAM, the navy's unit for underwater missions, the Institute of Naval Medicine, and elements of Snapir, the harbour security unit. Shore support is organised into coastal squadrons covering technical, personnel, logistics and defence functions.

Haifa Naval Shipyard occupies the western part of the base.

The base's new buildings in the west of Haifa port were inaugurated on 12 July 1961, during the thirteenth Navy Day.
