Description
Bushehr lies on the northern Persian Gulf. Established in the early 1970s by the Imperial Iranian Navy, it was for decades a major naval region of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy; when the 2nd Naval Region was reorganised its operational forces moved to Jask, and Bushehr was reduced to a support unit providing logistics and advanced officer training. It now headquarters the IRGC Navy's 2nd Naval District while continuing to support the relocated IRIN command. 266 of its personnel were killed during the Iran-Iraq War. Its naval infrastructure, vessels and the neighbouring air base were struck in the opening phase of the 2026 campaign.
