Las Palmas Naval Base (Arsenal de Las Palmas)

Las Palmas Naval Base, formally the Arsenal of Las Palmas, is a Spanish Navy base and arsenal at Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. It is the Spanish Navy's largest installation on the African continent and is commanded by a ship-of-the-line captain as Chief of the Arsenal.

The base homeports Buques de Acción Marítima offshore patrol vessels of the Meteoro class, among them Meteoro, Rayo, Relámpago and Tornado. Since 2000 it has also housed the Marine Corps unit of the Canaries, which relocated from the Manuel Lois Barracks; several buildings within the arsenal were converted to provide its offices and storerooms.

The installation stands on the Nuestra Señora del Pino dock, originally the seaplane base of the Air Force, with adjoining land acquired subsequently for the construction of workshops and administrative buildings. Two docks built during the 1950s provide berthing for submarines.

Construction of a dock on the site began in 1922 under the Association of Fruit Exporters of Las Palmas. The Spanish State decided during the Second World War to establish a permanent naval base in the Canary Islands, owing to the recurrent presence of belligerent warships in the archipelago, and the dock was expropriated in 1941. The Arsenal of Las Palmas was formally constituted in 1948.
