Description
Project 1176 Ondatra-class landing craft D-106 sank in approximately mid-June 2022 after striking a Russian naval mine near Mariupol in the Sea of Azov. The friendly fire incident was reported by Russian Telegram channels as a significant embarrassment. The 93-tonne Ondatra is a utility landing craft capable of carrying one tank or 45 tonnes of cargo. The loss highlighted the danger posed by Russia's own extensive mine-laying operations in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea approaches.
