Description
Two SwiftSea Stalker unmanned surface vessels, built by the U.S. shipbuilder Swiftships, were formally handed over to Nigerian President Bola Tinubu by the Minister of State for Defence at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, and reported in service in early January 2024. The 45-plus-knot USVs have a 400-nautical-mile range, 40-hour endurance and multi-modal situational-awareness sensors for reconnaissance, patrol and anti-piracy tasks in the Niger Delta, Lake Chad and other maritime approaches. The acquisition, from the manufacturer rather than a U.S. government transfer, is part of a wider Nigerian Navy push toward unmanned surface capability.
