Description
Indonesia signed a contract with Naval Group and the state shipbuilder PT PAL on 28 March 2024 for two Scorpène Evolved submarines, to be built at PT PAL's yard in Indonesia, Naval News reported. The boats will have a full lithium-ion battery configuration, which the report credits with greater usable energy, a better indiscretion rate and shorter charging, a submerged speed above 20 knots, a diving depth beyond 300 metres, a crew of 31 and six weapon tubes for up to 18 weapons. The agreement emphasises technology transfer to build Indonesian industrial capacity for long-term submarine operation and support. The contract entered into force in July 2025.
