Description
The nuclear attack submarine Duguay-Trouin (S636) was officially admitted to active service by the French Navy on 4 April 2024, Zone Militaire reported, becoming the second Suffren-class (Barracuda programme) boat in the fleet after Suffren herself. Sea trials had begun in March 2023 and included a long-duration deployment during which the boat became the first of her class to call at Fort-de-France, Martinique, testing her systems in both cold and warm waters. The Chief of the Naval Staff described the class as faster, more enduring, more versatile and quieter than the Rubis-class boats it replaces, with naval cruise missiles and special forces capability.
