Description
INS Arighaat (S3), India's second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine, was commissioned on 29 August 2024 in a ceremony presided over by the Defence Minister, Naval News reported. The Arihant class is a comparatively small SSBN with four missile silos. Arighaat incorporates indigenous systems and equipment conceived, designed, manufactured and integrated by Indian scientists, industry and naval personnel, making her significantly more advanced than the lead boat Arihant, which test-fired a submarine-launched ballistic missile in October 2022. The Defence Minister said the boat would further strengthen India's nuclear triad and enhance deterrence, according to the same report.
