Description

Expended as a gunnery target during a Fleet live-fire exercise in the Argentine Sea between 22 and 25 October 2024, as the Argentine Navy completed the fifth "Etapa de Mar" of the year; the precise day within that window is not specified by available sources. The exercise itself is documented by several outlets, but only Zona Militar identifies this ship as the target. Built in 1945 as USS Luiseno (ATF-156), an Abnaki-class fleet tug, the vessel was transferred to Argentina in 1975 and renamed ARA Francisco de Gurruchaga (A-3). During the 1982 Falklands War it helped recover 390 survivors of the sunk cruiser ARA General Belgrano. Decommissioned in 2024 after nearly 50 years in Argentine service, it was expended rather than scrapped.
