France Navy Émeraude Retired

The Rubis-class nuclear attack submarine Émeraude (S604) held her final colours ceremony at the naval base in Cherbourg on 12 December 2024, a month after arriving from Toulon, Mer et Marine reported. Responsibility for the boat then passed from the French Navy to Naval Group, which will cut out and dismantle the reactor compartment and store the remaining hull pending scrapping under the programme for first-generation attack submarines. Commissioned on 15 September 1988 and based at Toulon throughout, Émeraude logged about 1.3 million nautical miles and more than 169,000 diving hours, including a 2020-2021 deployment to the Asia-Pacific.
