Peru Navy BAP Ucayali Sunk

The river gunboat BAP Ucayali struck the anchored Perenco oil platform Manati on the Amazon near its confluence with the Napo at around 03:00 local time on 2 May 2025, breaching her hull and settling in shallow water while partially submerged. Two sailors were killed and the commanding officer was reported missing; about 30 crew were rescued by vessels travelling in convoy. Built in 1951, Ucayali was one of the Peruvian Navy's Marañón-class river gunboats, used mainly for patrol and humanitarian support along the Amazon basin.
