Description
Struck the Brooklyn Bridge in New York on 17 May 2025 when its masts hit the bridge structure during a departure maneuver; two cadets died and more than twenty crew members were injured. The Mexican Navy's sail training ship underwent structural repairs and a full maintenance overhaul at the Astillero de Marina Número Uno in Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, following initial emergency work in New York. After sea-acceptance trials, Cuauhtémoc arrived back at Acapulco in June 2026 and departed on 15 July 2026 for the "Pacífico Norte 2026" instruction cruise to Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and the U.S. West Coast — its first foreign deployment since the accident.
