Description
USNS Spearhead, lead ship of her class, was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 1 May 2025 after having been placed in "Inactive, Reduced Operating Status" since October 2020 and moored at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility in Philadelphia. Her retirement was part of an early Navy drawdown of the first four Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transports, alongside sister ships Choctaw County, Millinocket and Fall River, as the service opted to trade near-term fast-transport capacity for other priorities. Delivered in 2012, Spearhead had earlier been used to trial an unmanned-aircraft "drone mothership" role.
