Japan Navy JS Yūbetsu Commissioned

JS Yubetsu was commissioned into the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force on 19 June 2025, the eighth Mogami-class multi-mission frigate. Like her sisters she displaces 3,900 tonnes, carries a compact crew of about 90 and combines an enclosed integrated mast, a 127 mm gun, Type 17 anti-ship missiles and mine countermeasures equipment including unmanned surface and underwater vehicles. Yubetsu was assigned to northern Japan, where the class supports patrols in the waters facing Russia. Twelve units of the original Mogami design were ordered before production shifted to the upgraded variant.
