Description
USNS GySgt Fred W. Stockham was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 30 June 2025 and arrived at Brownsville, Texas, under her own power for scrapping, ending 28 years of service in Military Sealift Command's Maritime Prepositioning Program. Converted to an enhanced prepositioning ship and placed back in service in 2001, she operated out of Diego Garcia carrying vehicles and equipment for Marine Corps units across the Indian Ocean and Middle East. She is the second Navy ship named for the Marine Gunnery Sergeant awarded the Medal of Honor for heroism at Belleau Wood in 1918.
